Task 1: P1 - Produce Pre-Production Material for a Planned Original Audio-Visual Media Product
Pre-production Planning:
Song: Games by Dulcie Thompson
Lyrics:
We sit on the sofa, you moving closer to me
Your eyes on my cheeks mine fixed on the TV
Don’t know where to look don’t know what to say, in case you laugh
We sit on the sofa you moving closer to me
What do you want from me
The games you play, I don’t know the rules
You know all too well, I am gunna lose
Me and myself tonight
Fill me with champagne
So I’ll be in the palm of your hands again
Hands around my electric heart
Caught in an iron grip and its tearing me apart
We sit on the sofa you moving closer to me
What do you want from me
The games you play I don’t know the rules
You know all too well, I am gunna lose
Me and myself tonight
Your lips are like wine and I want to be drunk
Your lips are like mine and I want to be numb
I wanna give in, I wanna know you and be the one to hold you
I wanna give in, I wanna know you
What do you want from me
The games you play, I don’t know the rules
You know all too well,
I am gunna lose (All too well)
Me and myself tonight (tonight)
What do you want from me
The games you play I don’t know the rules
You know all too well
I am gunna lose
Me and myself tonight
Your lips are like wine and I want to be drunk
Your lips are like mine and I want to be numb

Treatment: I will be producing a music video for Dulcie Thompson, lasting approximately 3 minutes. The narrative will help to express the protagonist/artist feelings, as she is unsure whether her friendship is or will ever be anything more. It will also help display how she wants to feel and her confusion at the current time. The narrative will be supported by abstract shots to portray these feelings and help to display them metaphorically. Both the narrative and abstract shots will help to foreshadow her feelings throughout the song, and portray the mind games occurring. By including performance in the music video, it will help to target a wider audience, and will also help the audience connect more with the artist as we will see her emotion through close up shots, for example, whilst she is performing.

Set Designs:
-
Studio: The studio is already set up with the correct instruments; however I will need to align the piano to enable me to get shots from several camera angles. I will need to remove any wires or equipment that is not relevant to my music video to keep the shots, and therefore the audience, focussed on the artist and performance.
-
Classroom: With regards to abstract shots I will be using a projector to produce different colours and moods. As I will be using the projector in a college classroom, I will just need props, nothing else with regards to the set.
-
Home: Here I will need to clear any unwanted furniture or other items so that my artist is in focus. Again, I won’t really need to design anything, as long as I can get several angles and shots within the scene.
Budget: As I have my own camera and equipment, I will only need to budget a small amount. The only cost will be petrol getting to and from locations. I will also be purchasing some gel covers to change the lighting slightly when using the redheads etc, therefore will need to budget some money towards those, as well as postage and packaging if purchasing online.

Music Video Production Log
30th September:
I completed shots of different scenes via the projector to add an abstract feel to my music video. I then used the green screen to take shots of my artist, ready to combine my shots in editing. I wanted the shots to be still rather than handheld as the background moves, therefore I didn’t want there to be too much movement if my artist wasn’t completely still. I followed this shot from my storyboard however slightly changed the way I was going to film my artist in this shot to ensure better quality.
1st October:
Today I filmed shots with my artist and actor at my house. I completed shots of them on the sofa, shots for the scene where the artist receives a gift bag and rose, and scenes of her being upset with the presents. I filmed shots of her cutting up the rose, her crying and also the scene where she’s upset and drives in the dark. I didn’t have to be aware of any health and safety issues as it was at home, so the area is generally not unsafe.
2nd October:
I filmed establishing and wide shots as part of the abstract section of my video, as my artist was unavailable, so I decided to film footage I didn’t need my artist in. I went to Coate Water in Swindon and mainly used the tripod to keep the camera stable and get different panning shots. As I didn’t need to filmy artist at all, I only used a tripod. I filmed my storyboard shots by filming the same shot types all at the same time. To follow safety procedures I ensure that my tripod was always on a flat surface, and that there were no chances of my camera of tripod being exposed to water.
3rd October:
I filmed the abstract shots and some shots for my narrative; I started at my Abbeymeads location, and filmed shots without my artist, as again she was unavailable. I used a rose throughout my filming and used a variety of shots. Some were handheld and some were using a tripod. As this is in a public location I ensured that when members of the public were around, I stopped filming. I followed some of my ideas from my storyboard, however as my artist was unavailable on the times I was, I had to improvise with when and how I used her in the narrative.
4th October:
I mainly completed shots at home as I used my house as a key location. I used props (eg a rose) and followed my storyboard ideas.
I completed this shot successfully; however believe the quality could have been better as a result of better lighting. I also completed this idea as a result of my moodboard that I created in pre-production. I had several issues with lighting, as the light was fairly dull, therefore I had to solve this by adjusting the IOS on my camera. I used the tripod throughout, however did complete some hand held shots to add variation to my footage.
5th October:
I filmed again at Coate Water, however with my artist this time. I got several shots relating to my narrative, and some general shots of her as fillers in my music video. Again, to ensure I was following ethical issues, I did not film whilst any member of the public were in shot. I only used the tripod as equipment, therefore ensure the tripod was always stable and secure, without any risk to water etc. I also filmed shots that were part of the abstract section of my video, and relating the story to the lyrics.
6th October
I filmed my artist in the studio to ensure I had aspects for the performance in my music video. Again, I only used a tripod as I wanted my shots to be still, and not handheld. I completed shots from a range of different angles so that I could use shots throughout my video, rather than repeating the same ones.
